Matwork Timetable

Matwork classes (& Chair classes) take place in the Matwork studio downstairs, and they run weekly. We now offer 'continuous Pilates' which means that once you are signed up for a weekly class, your space is secure and booked until you choose to leave. Weekly classes are paid for by monthly credit/debit card payments
Most matwork classes last for 75 minutes (some are just 60 minutes).
Exercises take place on a mat (or chair), and we often use small equipment like bands, balls and foam rollers.

Studio Class Timetable

Studio classes take place in our Equipment studio upstairs, and they always last for 60 minutes.
Exercises are performed on various large machines (the Reformer, the Cadillac, the Stability Chair, and the Ladder Barrel).
We also use many smaller pieces of equipment, as well as doing some Matwork exercises.
Studio classes are not booked like Matwork classes. You can book a one-off class, a few classes, or a regular weekly / fortnightly / monthly class - there is no need to make a commitment like there is with Matwork classes, although most people still choose to attend the same class every week and become 'permanent' members of a class so that their place is guaranteed

Our Junior studio teachers ( currently only Catherine - marked with an asterisk * on the studio timetable) are all fully qualified Matwork teachers, who are currently training on the equipment under Leila's tuition and mentorship. They have to log 400 hours of assisting Senior teachers before they are allowed to sit their Pilates Foundation exams and become Senior teachers themselves. Classes with our Junior teachers are cheaper than with our Senior teachers (Leila, Polly, Louise, Sara, Lou and Kate).

Group Matwork Class Prices

Our Matwork classes are now continuous, i.e they run every week apart from a 2 week break over Christmas and Easter and a 4-week break in August. Payment is required on a monthly basis via credit/debit card. The monthly price varies between £30.53 and £36.30, calculated over a 12 month period and depending on which day of the week your class is (Monday classes lose a few days each year because of bank holidays, so are cheaper). Equipment Class Prices

We have a 24-hour cancellation policy: Studio classes cancelled with less than 24 hours notice (72 hours if your class is on a Monday), must be paid for in full .

Term Dates 2019 - 2020

  • Chair class
    This class is for you if you want to stay active and supple but you are not able to get up and down from the floor easily, or lie down on the floor comfortably. It is suitable for the older person or for those with restricted mobility, joint replacements, MS, Parkinsons, Fibromyalgia, Osteoporosis, etc. Rather than doing conventional Pilates exercises (which take place on the floor) this class uses the Pilates principles to help improve your balance, strength, mobility, posture and coordination, with gentle exercises either sitting in a chair or standing and holding onto the chair.

  • Ante-natal
    This class is for you if you are between 13 and 36 weeks pregnant. You may start attending this class once you have had your 12-week scan / all-clear from the doctor. You can keep attending until you reach 36 weeks, but if you have already reached 32 weeks then you are advised not to start Pilates at this later stage of pregnancy. If you are already attending another class when you become pregnant you must let your teacher know immediately (in confidence if you wish), but you should usually be able to continue with your regular class until you reach 13 weeks (then move to the ante-natal class).

  • Post-natal
    This class is for you if you have given birth at least 6 weeks ago (at least 10 weeks for a caesarian) and feel ready to start gentle exercise again. We recommend that you start this class as early as possible and continue for at least 4 - 6 months post-natally, or until you feel ready to join (or re-join) a regular group class. It usually takes about a year for your body to completely recover from pregnancy / labour and return to its pre-pregnancy state.
    If the post-natal class is not running (due to insufficient demand), we recommend a 1-1 class, so that you can have a "rec-check" (assessing the abdominals for 'gapping'). This 1-1 session allows us to ensure that the necessary healing is taking place, and your teacher will give you remedial exercises to strengthen the pelvic floor / abdominals. Any problems or imbalances can be addressed, facilitating your recovery and your return to fitness. After your 1-1 post-natal assessment, you can join a normal Matwork or Studio class (once your abdominals are ready).

  • Teenagers and Kids
    These classes are aimed at anyone between the ages of 7 and 17 years old. Pilates will help your child to become more aware of their body, teaching them some basic anatomy and helping them to move more efficiently in everyday life. Pilates will help to improve your child's posture, balance, strength, flexibility, and coordination. This is especially important for young people who are already suffering from pain due to hypermobility, or an injury / medical condition, and equally important for anyone considering a career in dance or sport. Starting this gentle but effective form of exercise early in life can also help to prevent problems later on, and it will help to instill the idea that challenging exercise doesn't necessarily have to be aerobic and can also be FUN! These classes are currently not running but please ask about 1-1 Pilates or contact us to add your child / teenager to our waiting list.
